San/ Pfizer Benefit Sharing Agreement
The recently concluded agreement between the attorneys of the San of Southern
Africa and the transnational pharmaceutical company Pfizer is encouraging. For
centuries the scientific knowledge and intellectual systems of the people of
Africa and elsewhere have been tapped -with very little recognition
from their beneficiaries in the Western World. This agreement is a
pleasant start.The appetite suppressant marketed as 'Hoodia' is now sold in the
U.S. market at $30.00 per 30 capsules.It was derived from the Hoodia plant which
